This morning I returned from a business trip to Honolulu and during my stay I was able to take in several performances.I started with dinner and a performance by the Makaha Sons at Chai's Island Bistro. Great performance and I had a chance to say hello to Jerome, John and Moon.
Although not performing, I saw Hoku Zuttermeister (Jerome was kind enough to introduce me).
Raiatea Helm had just released her new CD "Hawaiian Blossom" and she was making several appearances to promote her third release. I caught her performance at Borders at Ward Center. She was signing autographs and I took to opportunity to tell her about Pacificmele.com.
Tia Carrere was also in town promoting her new CD "Hawaiiana." I saw her perform at "Flavors of Honolulu". She was also signing autographs for anyone who purchased her CD. I didn't get to say hello as there was a huge line-up but I did get several pictures.
Another show by the Makaha Sons, this time at "Flavors of Honolulu". John Koko was star stuck by Tia Carrere as he dedicated every other song to Tia and proclaimed his secret crush on her.
My most embarrassing moment was meeting Eric Lee of Na Kama. I listen to Eric perform at the Resortquest Waikiki Beach Hotel. After he was finished I told him about Pacificmele.com and asked if he was well known in the industry only to find out that he was a part of a 2007 Hoku winning group. (I admit that I am still getting to know who's who in the industry).
During my trip I purchased a few new CDs and the Makaha Sons' DVD. I highly recommend Raiatea's "Hawaiian Blosson" and she is a must see if you can catch a live performance. You will be amazed at her voice.

Pacific Mele,
I admire your willingness to share your love for Hawaii's music with those of us who are not able to get to the performances.
